I have been using Gillette blades quite a while and have been looking for the perfect blade for as long as I can remember. I started waxing at a young age because my mother wanted me to have smooth legs like super models. That never worked out the way we both hoped because I realized that I couldn’t get my legs waxed anymore as I was getting ingrown hair and it was becoming a big issue. Hence I started shaving and have been on the lookout for good razor blades ever since. After a very long process I can finally say that I have found the perfect razor blade that suits me.
In the recent past I have been using different Gillette blades and thought I would share my experience with you. I personally bought these products myself for my personal use.

Gillette Original Razor
The first three blade razor designed for women. The Venus Original razor features protective cushions for a smooth close shave. This is what the website claims that the razor can achieve:
  • 3-blade smoothness
  • Protective cushions gently smooth out skin for a close shave
  • Blue indicator strip fades away when you are no longer getting the optimal Venus shave
  • In-shower razor holder
  • Easy-to-change cartridges

The packaging is very basic, it came in a white holder that held four extra blades inside them. It came so that the holder could be wall mounted in your toilet for easy use. That never worked out and kept falling off as the rubber sucker attached to the back was not very good. Having the extra four blades was an added advantage because if like me you only remember you have run out of razor blades when you’re in the shower and about to start shaving this will save you time. I hate when this happens to me and it has happened on so many occasions. I now have extra blades stocked up.
When it comes to using the actual razor, the razor handle its self is very easy to hold and navigate. It’s very lightweight so by the end of the shave your arm is not in pain. The blades clip on very easily, all you have to do is remove the blue protective cover and just slip the razor in place.
Once you have lathered the shaving cream on it glides very easily and just like it claims it does give you a close shave, so you don’t have to keep going over and over the same place till you get every bit of hair. With one stroke this is achievable.
The razor last for quite a long time, I used my first razor handle for almost three years until I was forced to change it by my husband. Each blade last around a month as it also depends on how often you shave, or you can use it until the Dark Blue Indicator has faded away.
All in all it is a great product with great value for money. I loved using this blade until my legs started itching and I was having a stinging feeling after every shave. Because of this issue I was on the lookout for another razor blade that didn’t irritate my skin as much.
I would recommend this blade for people who don’t have sensitive skin, as it does give a smooth hassle free close shave. It’s a basic blade and does the job well of shaving.
Gillette Venus Pro Skin Sensitive Razor
According to the website this razor blade is supposed to be the perfect match for sensitive skin, experience a closer shave and less irritation with 5 curve-hugging blades and 8 times more glide boosters. Discover why Venus is the razor brand used by dermatologists.
  • Protective Ribbon of Moisture with 8 times more glide boosters and a touch of aloe for glide
  • 5-blades spaced closer together for a close shave and reduced pressure per blade
  • Dermatologist tested for sensitive skin
  • Easy-to-change cartridge

Gillette does have the same basic packaging for almost all their razor blades. The only difference is the colour of each packaging. This time I bought only the different razor blades as they are interchangeable and fits any lady Gillette razor  handle you have. That’s the plus side that you can try the different razor blades without having to buy the whole package again. I love this about Gillette it’s so versatile.
As I previously mentioned I have sensitive skin and had stop using the Venus Original blade as my skin was not liking the after effects. This blade on the hand is particularly made for sensitive skin and is dermatologically tested. I saw an immediate improvement just after the first use. I didn’t have the itching sensation or the stinging feeling. Since the blade is coated with aloe that helps ease my skin. I loved using this blade, it was easy and I had a much faster shave as it has five blades (where as the original has just three blades) for an even closer shave due to its reduced pressure on each blade. You still need to use shaving cream even though it has an aloe coating as the shaving process becomes much gentler on the skin.
This blade lasts less than the Original blade due to the aloe strip, as the aloe strip, after each use dries up. I used each blade roughly for a month. Once I stopped working full time the need for me to shave frequently reduced and I would shave now maybe once a week or so or even longer sometimes. As I said before it all depends on how often you shave.
I would recommend this by all means for anyone who like me, has sensitive skin and even for the lucky girls who have no issues with skin irritation as it is gentler on the skin and gives a much smoother and closer shave.
Overall the best razor blade I have used is the Gillette Venus Pro Skin Sensitive, it has everything I have been looking for and is so convenient. I suggest you guys give it a go as well.
Let me know if you shave, wax or epilate. I would love to hear if any of you have tried any of these blades or will be trying one of the blades.
